Shopify Partners With Airwallex to Drive Global Payments

FinTech payments platform Airwallex is partnering with eCommerce firm Shopify to offer online merchants a streamlined integration for payment acceptance from customers around the world.

The Airwallex Online Payments App is a payment gateway plugin that supports Visa, Mastercard, UnionPay bank cards, and more than 30 local payment methods across Asia-Pacific and Europe, according to a press release on Thursday (July 21).

GrabPay in Southeast Asia, WeChat Pay in APAC, and Bancontact and Sofort in Europe are some of the local payment methods that merchants can integrate using the Airwallex Online Payments App on Shopify.

Airwallex SVP of Partnerships and General Manager, Americas Ravi Adusumilli said its solution will help online retailers “create a seamless payment journey” and is just one way its app can help eCommerce merchants accept cross-border payments.

“… by using an Airwallex account, merchants can gain secure access to a multitude of payment methods, both globally and locally, in a convenient, fast and affordable way possible,” Adusumilli added.

Settlements can also be received in over seven major currencies, including USD, which can sidestep currency conversion and other fees, according to the release. Merchants have the option of accepting payments into their Airwallex multi-currency wallets and cash out with borderless cards or transfers.
