Saudi Arabia ministry to refer 200 e-stores to the Ecommerce Violations Committee

The Saudi commerce ministry has referred 200 online stores to the E-commerce Violations Committee in the country to impose legal penalties for violating compliance standards.

The monitoring covered various online stores, including large, medium, and small businesses who sell different products from cosmetics to furniture and electronic devices.

The national authority has announced the obligation of online stores to implement 13 standards that provide reliability in ecommerce, including contact phone number, e-mail address, instant stat, a reliable e-payment feature processed through an approved bank channel, compliant-filing feature on the store’s website, and disclosure of the exact response time for consumer complaints and legal claims.

Ecommerce platforms who sell in Saudi Arabia must also clearly state the exact delivery time before the completion of the purchase process, as well as integrate the Arabic language in the complaint mechanism and in the provision of a clear, written policy for returns and exchanges.
